Ci sono delle volte in cui l’essere umano ha bisogno di nuovi alfabeti, spesso decifrabili soltanto a se stesso. Sono dei mezzi “sostenibili” per stare al mondo.
E sempre a volte, questi alfabeti, si traducono con la volontà di percepire la realtà da altre, diverse, angolazioni. Non per modificarla. Ma per apprezzarla. Come se si guardasse per la prima volta. Alessandro “Alex” Chiapparelli nasce nel 1970 e già all’età di 8 anni si lascia sedurre da qualsiasi cosa racconti quel che è, percependone il bisogno di essere anche qualcos’altro. Un senso artistico che gli segnerà le scelte future di studio e lavorative, che convergeranno verso le arti grafiche. Giovanissimo, quindi, con la “Yashica” del padre ruba immagini di vita impressionando l’istantaneità di scene che rende eterne. Un archivio di base che lo condurrà, a studi artistici completati, ad apprendere tutti gli elementi teorici e pratici della fotografia. E lo fa dal basso, sviluppando pellicole nelle camere oscure di tipografie e negativi negli studi fotografici. Nel tempo acquisisce nozioni su l’uso del colore e del bianco e nero ed è con quest’ultima tecnica che cattura molti dei suoi soggetti. Nudi del colore perché s’intuisca subito il rapporto emotivo tra questi.
Eppure, anche nel colore i contrasti sono sempre forti. E mentre nel bianco e nero la drammaticità di alcuni scatti è prepotente, il colore ne compensa la nitidezza e la “jeux de vivre” di una giornata di sole a Roma. Non solo fotografo di reportage e Life-Style, è un creativo la cui arte è in evoluzione dal ruvido al lucido. Estro che lo porta, nel 2002, ad una collaborazione con il fotografo Fernando Muscinelli.
Ad oggi il suo lavoro è multidirezionale, dalla scrittura alla filmografia senza mai trascurare il suo primo amore per la fotografia.
There are times when human beings need new alphabets, often decipherable only to themselves. These are “sustainable” means of existing in the world. And sometimes, these alphabets translate into a desire to perceive reality from different, unique angles. Not to alter it but to appreciate it, as if looking at it for the first time.
Alessandro “Alex” Chiapparelli was born in 1970, and at the age of 8, he was already captivated by anything that could tell what is, sensing the need for it to be something else. This artistic sensibility would shape his future choices in education and work, leading him towards the graphic arts. At a very young age, he stole life images with his father’s “Yashica,” capturing the immediacy of scenes and making them eternal. This foundational archive would eventually lead him, after completing his artistic studies, to learn all the theoretical and practical elements of photography, starting from scratch. He developed film in darkrooms in printing houses and negatives in photography studios. Over time, he acquired knowledge about the use of color and black and white, and it’s with the latter technique that he captures many of his subjects, devoid of color to immediately convey the emotional relationship between them.
Nevertheless, even in color, the contrasts are always strong. While in black and white, the drama of some shots is dominant, color compensates with its clarity and the “joie de vivre” of a sunny day in Rome. He is not just a reportage and life-style photographer; he is a creative artist whose art has evolved from the raw to the polished. His creativity led him to a collaboration with photographer Fernando Muscinelli in 2002.
Today, his work is multidirectional, encompassing writing and filmmaking without ever neglecting his first love for photography.
